Registration:
When registering your child for camp, you will encounter a section where we ask you to list all medications your camper will bring. We define medications as anything regulated by the FDA, including:
- Over-the-counter pain relievers such as Advil or Tylenol
- Prescription medications such as antibiotics, pain relievers, inhalers, or EpiPens
Please provide detailed instructions for each medication, including whether it should be taken in the morning or evening, with food, or as needed. All medications brought to camp must be registered. If unregistered medication is found with your camper, our staff will contact you for clarification.
Storage and Handling:
All medications are carefully tagged and registered in our system, just like campers. Each medication is assigned an RFID band similar to the ones used to track campers.
- Life-saving medications (e.g., inhalers, EpiPens): These are securely stored in the camp-issued staff backpack carried by your camper's pod leader. This will be near your camper at all times.
- Non-life-saving medications (e.g., antibiotics, pain relievers): These are stored securely in the nurse's cabin and made available according to your instructions.
Epi-Pens
Many campers bring EpiPens to camp, and these are classified as life-saving medications. EpiPens are always kept in the staff-issued backpack carried by your camper's pod leader. Campers are not permitted to carry their own EpiPens.
All Cedar Springs staff are certified in first aid and CPR, and their training includes the proper use and administration of EpiPens.
